The Netherlands and 's-Gravenzande

-The Netherlands is a small and flat country with around 17 million people. A great part of the westside of the Netherlands is below sea level. (from zero to 6 metres)
-The city of 's-Gravenzande is in the "Westland". In "Westland" are a lot of "warehouses / Greenhouses / Glasshouses" from farmers that breed vegetables and flowers. All the bleu parts on the map are "Greenhouses".
-The population of the city 's-Gravenzande is around 17.000 people. Some Nickname's of 's-Gravenzande are "The City of Glass" or "Het Breje Dorp".
-Most of the city of 's-Gravenzande surface is 1 or 2 meters below sea level. There is only a small dune from about 50 á 75 metress.

Flower Parade in Westland

Every year we have in the month August a flower parade with around 60 small boats.

Westland Greenhouses and Grenery

-Here you see a impression about the "Greenhouses" in het "Westland" and the Grenery in Naaldwijk where all the flowers were trade.
-The vegetables where trade in a other Grenery on a other place

-The city on the first picture is the city "Monster" 5km from / above 's-Gravenzande - (on the right side of the picture you can see the first houses of 's-Gravenzande)-(The dark place in the right-corner on the top is the city of Naaldwijk)-(On the front of the picture you see the sea, beach and the only very small dune we have.)
-The second and third picture is taken from top of the dune, it's gives you a idea on which niveau is the city
-The pictures four to six, shows you some greenhouses. Some farmers painted the Greenhouses with white chalk as protection the plants for the sun

-Pictures one to four are taken in the Grenery from Naaldwijk.
-Picture five are taken in a greenhouse for big Tropic plants
-Picture six and seven are taken in a greenhouse for tomatoes.
-The pictures eight to ten are taken in a greenhouse for flowers called "Gerbera's".

Hoek of Holland - Storm surge barrier on the Nieuwe Waterweg

-5km from / below 's-Gravenzande is the city "Hoek of Holland". Hoek of Holland is the Port to the Harbour of Rotterdam
-The canal from the North Sea to Rotterdam is called "Nieuwe Waterweg"
-By heavy storm rising the sealevel and also the water in the canal. When the water rising too high, then we have the possibility to become a flood. For protecting is built a big metal barrier and is it possible to close the canal by moments with too high water.
-The Storm surge barrier on the "Nieuwe Waterweg", constitute the final elements of the Delta works, the plan for protecting the Netherlands against the sea.

Hoek of Holland - Harwich Ferry-Boat

-In Hoek of Holland you have also the ferry boatstation to Harwich in England from the Stena-Line
-The pictures show you some ships from the Stena-Line
-There are gargo-ships and gargo-with passengers ships



Hoek of Holland - Visit of Queen Mary II

-On Wednesday 21 July 2004 visited the biggest Passengers/Cruise ship of the World, the Queen Mary II from the Guinard Line, the harbour of Rotterdam and passed "Hoek of Holland" the Port of the Harbor from Rotterdam.
-The visit was for one day. In the harbour of Rotterdam and on both sides of the canal "Nieuwe Waterweg" to "Hoek of Holland" was a lot of people that want to see the ship.

Hoek of Holland - Visit of the Westerdam

-On Saterday 1 August 2004 visited a other big Passengers/Cruise ship, the Westerdam from the Holland-America Line (H.A.L.), the harbour of Rotterdam and passed also "Hoek of Holland".
-It was a nice sunny day, but on the moment that the ship leave Hoek of Holland avery cold sea-mist comming op.



Delft

-20km from 's-Gravenzande you have the city of Delft. On the pictures you see some building in the centre of Delft.
-On the second picture you see one of the famous Dutch barrel organs tracked by a horse. In Dutch called "Draaiorgel or Pierement"
-A lot of Dutch people lives in "houseboats" on the canals. The third picture show you some houseboats in Delft
